Reno, Nevada, November 14, 2024 – The Afton at Sparks Marina, an affordable senior housing development and a Call to Action Community, announced today the groundbreaking of its development in Sparks, Nevada. This much-needed affordable housing project is being developed to serve the senior population, providing 142 safe and affordable living units.

The Afton at Sparks Marina will be built at 1275 E. Prater Way and is a three-story, 142-unit complex that will serve residents aged 62 and older. The development offers a mix of one- and two-bedroom apartments, with 100 percent of the units reserved for seniors making 80 percent or less of the Area Median Income while the remaining units will be available at market rate. The complex will include amenities such as a clubhouse, fitness center, valet trash services, and covered parking. It is conveniently situated near Northern Nevada Hospital, Sparks Senior Service Center, and the Sparks Marina Park.

Unlike many other affordable housing projects, The Afton is being developed without federal funding, thanks to the equity provided by the Call to Action Foundation and the support of the State of Nevada Housing Division.

“We are honored to be part of a project that will make a real difference in the lives of seniors in the Sparks community and are thankful to Holiday Inn & Suites for donating the property to make this possible,” said Director of Housing for the Call to Action Foundation Drew Maggelet. “This development not only provides safe, affordable housing, but it does so in a location that offers easy access to amenities that support healthy, active aging.”

Metcalf Builders, an award-winning construction company headquartered in Reno, will serve as the general contractor for the development.
